The perspective you choose was also a good way to make the picture more dynamic. And all of the little details you put into every piece of this picture make it look much more realistic as well. I'd have to say this is one of the most beautifully done traditional animal works I've ever seen.
Lastly, the feathers have that very 'textured' feeling to them. The different sizes and layers also help with the realism effect. I respect your artistic talent, and wonderful technique.
The colorscheme flows beautifully. It feels like the piece is united, and pulled together well.
The colors give the piece more of a surreal feel, rather than a realistic feel, which is a very nice contridiction to the realistic looking bird (minus the colors of course). The coloration seems to "mimic" what the bird would look like, however do not match the vibrancy I would expect to see in a live parrot. Even if this was not your intention, I think that it does the artwork justice.
The balance is off in my opinion, but the heaviness to the left makes the piece more unique.
The parrot itself is amazingly drawn down to the smallest details of the feathers. The eye is absolutely beautiful! Even though the colors do not appear real, the bird does!
This piece may not be perfect (for example I think the that white part around the eye needed a bit more detail work to match the rest of the piece----parrots have a very fine "down" like feather there), however I do think that the piece is amazing and caught my eye! I have yet to find a perfect piece of art, as it does not exist! Imperfect yes, but needless to say wonderfully so. Be proud of yourself.
